Yupoo hoodies: read the weight, not the logo
Hoodies look simple and are surprisingly hard to buy well. Weight, loft, ribbing and shrinkage decide whether a piece feels like a $30 basic or a $120 staple — and none of that is obvious from a thumbnail.

This page is about reading the signals: how the hood sits, how the cuff recovers, how the body falls. Get those right and the logo becomes secondary.
Weight first, everything else second
Ask for grams per square metre or total garment weight. Under 300 gsm feels light and tends to drape thin; 380–450 gsm is the sweet spot for a structured hoodie. Heavy is not automatically better — it can be stiff.
The hood and the ribbing
A hood that collapses forward looks cheap. Ask for a photo with the hood up. Check cuff and hem ribbing for recovery: stretched-out ribbing is the first thing to fail.
Shrinkage and care
Cotton fleece can shrink 3–6% in length. Cold wash and air dry. If you are between sizes and want the oversized look, size up once and accept a slightly longer body.
Before you commit
- Ask for the hood-up photo and a cuff close-up.
- Confirm whether the fleece is brushed or loopback.
- Check body length against a hoodie you own.
- Wash cold before judging shrinkage.
| Tier | Range | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
| Light | $20–$35 | Thin fleece, basic prints |
| Standard | $35–$65 | Mid-weight, better ribbing |
| Heavy | $65–$110 | High gsm, structured hood |

Hoodies & Sweats: common questions
What gsm should a good hoodie be?
Around 380–450 gsm for a structured feel. Below 300 gsm tends to drape thin; above 500 gsm can feel rigid.
Brushed or loopback fleece?
Brushed is softer inside and pills more; loopback is smoother, cooler and more durable. Choose based on climate and care patience.
Why does the hood collapse?
Usually a thin single-layer hood or weak interlining. Ask for a hood-up photo and check whether it holds shape.
Will the print survive washing?
Cold wash inside out and avoid tumble drying. Heat is what cracks prints and shrinks fleece.
Should I size up?
Only if you want the oversized look or the chart shows a slim cut. Compare body length first; sizing up adds length as well as width.
Keep narrowing
