Finish and weight

Yupoo jewelry: small pieces, big tells

Jewelry is small, high-margin and hard to photograph honestly. Plating thickness, stone setting and clasp quality decide whether a piece lasts a season or a week.

The catalogue shows a lot of styling; your job is to ask for the macro shots. If a seller cannot provide a close-up of a setting or a clasp, that is information too.

Plating and base metal

Ask what the base metal is and how thick the plating is. “Stainless steel with gold plating” is a different product from brass with a thin wash. The former resists tarnish; the latter may not.

Stone setting

Prongs should be even and sit flush. Ask for a macro photo under neutral light. Glue-set stones are common at low price points and fail faster.

Clasps and wear

A weak clasp loses the piece. Check the closure type and ask whether it is replaceable. Keep jewelry away from perfume, chlorine and prolonged moisture.

Checks

Before you commit

  • Ask for metal composition and plating thickness.
  • Request a macro shot of the stone setting.
  • Check clasp type and replaceability.

Jewelry: common questions

Will plated jewelry tarnish?

Eventually, yes. Thicker plating and stainless steel bases last longer. Keep pieces dry and away from perfume.

Is stainless steel better than brass?

For durability and tarnish resistance, usually. Brass is softer and takes plating well but wears faster.

How do I check stone security?

Ask for a macro photo of the prongs. Even spacing and a flush seat are good signs; glue residue is not.

Can I shower with jewelry?

Avoid it. Soap, heat and chlorine degrade plating and loosen settings.

What if a clasp breaks?

Ask before buying whether the clasp is replaceable and whether spare parts are available.
